Searching for code examples

As a developer there has been many times where docs or books haven't helped in finding solutions to programming questions, in such situations the best alternatives to find an answer is either throught forums JGuru,The ServerSide or through search engines such as Google or Yahoo! .

Now there are some new search engines which are spring up , one of which is Koders which allows you to search through source files itself with more than 125,112,016 lines of code, this engine rocks , not only does it give you the codes you are searching for in its actual class but also provides you with the related classes associated with this particular class.

It really is worth the click so dont hesitate!

MSN 7 beta

Hohoho , father xmas bill gates has struck again with the newest version of msn , the "MSN 7", it has some of the features that came with "3 degrees" ,namely winks and nudge which makes your window and your partners window shake! Its pretty cool but use it moderately!. Also the handwritting feature is awesome. This allows you to draw something and send it over to your friend.

MSN also has a new interface but dont expect too much changes. Its supid why they dont use some of the features that msn plus has to offer such as transparent windows , blocking all your contacts at one go etc..

Be careful though this version is still undergoing Beta Testing and i would recommend you to install patches if you are asked to by the msn service.

Also for handwritting capability you would require journal viewer (install if you dont see a handwritting tab on your dialog box)

Resources:

  • Download MSN 7 beta
  • Journal viewer 1.5

    Clipath

Just came across one utility which i find really helpful its called Clip Path . At times you need to copy full file paths , convert the backward slashes into forward slashes then copy the new path , then paste the stuff wherever you want to paste it to.

Clip path allows you to copy the full path of a folder by simple right hand clicking on the folder and clicking on the clipath button. It allows you to copy the full path of the folder to clipboard with either backslashes "\" or forwardslashes "/" (you get to choose). No need now to go to properties and having to manually copy the path of a folder anymore.

    To install just
    1. Download the Clipath zip file
    2. right hand click on the .inf file
    3. and press install

    Jarhoo - no more ClassNotFoundException

Just found out one cool little web service called Jarhoo as the name suggests it has to do with jars and indeed Jarhoo allows you to search for information on jars when you get NoClassDefFoundError or ClassNotFoundException problems in JAVA.

The interface is pretty simple to use and the example button clearly shows how useful this online tool can be.

    Google Desktop

    Google Desktop Search

Google released a nice cool utillity called Google Desktop this comes as a 446kb download to be installed on Windows Xp and above.

Google Desktop gives you the option of searching your own hard drive for files having content for which you are querying. The installation is very fast and indexing of your hard drive takes place when your pc is idle.

I recommend this to all of you because it really is a nice tool if you have loads of information scattered around ure hardisk.

Tasky :: a neat little tool

I just discovered one cool little tool called Tasky . Tasky can be used to assign tasks to different members of a team , it is a bit like Microsoft Project but it could be used for tasks which are not usually planned in Microsft project or just as a reminder for team members .

It runs with Tomcat and MySql. It took me like 30 minutes to get it up and running which is to say how easy it is to install. If you dont want it to run with MySql it can store all data in memory (this is good if you want to have just an idea of what you can do with the tool).

The interface is really cool ,relaxing and above all easy to use.

    Hope you will enjoy it:

Running UNIX on your Game Boy

I found this article about a guy who actually made UNIX run on his Game Boy Advance (GBA) console. Man the lengths people go through to make their lives more interesting ..(haha!).

He gives off very clear and well formatted information on his findings, which is a good thing to get to understand what he says ..hmm

Ok so if you are interested in how to run UNIX on GBA here is the place where you can make your dreams come true (or make you lose your sleep):

    Windows Media Player 10

Just installed the latest media player from Windows . The interface has changed a bit from the previous Windows MP 9 , however there is no big difference and in terms of functionality the following is possible:

    1. Rip (Ripping music to your Hardisk)
    2. Burn (Burning your own CDs)
    3. Sync (with portable devices)
    4. Guide (Gives you acess to information on latest music)
    5. Online Stores (Access to Microsoft's new online Store)

The skins are the same as Windows MP9. I think they ought to have added a few new skins.

Basically i havent found much innovation in the new version but as its new and free well just as well install it :P .

    Orkut the Community

Another service which is making a lot of noise right now is Orkut . This is basically a network of friends which you develop and which makes the Orkut community grow.

Right now the majority of people in Orkut surprising comes from Brazil (52%), US (16%), Iran (5%) and india (2%). I think this has got to do with invitations , to register to the community you need to send invitations and this normally engenders a chain reaction where 1 person sends 3 invitations and the 3 which comes send 3 times 3 invitations and so on...

Orkut is still budding and if you want to make your place for a service which is bound to be really cool well its the right time to get registered (..or invited :P ).

So if you want to get an invitation just let me know :)

    Win a Gmail competition :)

Okie people so I have 2 gmails left so if you really want one please give me the reasons why I should give one to you. Post your comments here.

Tip: try to be funny ;) ..this is my weak point

GMAIL the best email service I've seen

Ok for those of you who dont know what gmail is all about well this is a quick description of the functionalities offered:

    1. First of all 1000MB space i.e 1GB space enough for you to store a lifetime's email without ever having to delete a mail again.

    2. When some replies to your mail it does not come as a seperate email instead it comes as a conversation where emails from the same person is tabbed one after the other as if it was part of a chat message. I find this pretty cool , no need to have endless message entries from the same person in your mailbox instead it is grouped in one mail. The latest mail is shown first.

    3. If you leave your web interface of gmail open it automatically checks your mail after a given amount of time.

The only problem with gmail right now is that it is not yet available to the public as it is still in beta testing. However google has given out invitations since the test has started so as people having a gmail invitation link can access the registration page to create their gmail account.

    e.g of a gmail link http://gmail.google.com/gmail/a-189c25be86-add117

I got my gmail invitation from a site called http://www.gmailswap.com where a guy (thanks man) was giving out gmail invitations in the form of a game. This site is really cool as you can post your pleas for gmail and have owners of invites reading the pleas to decide to whom to give the invitations. Its really funny the type of pleas you get to see. Some guys/gurls are swapping domains , cash , blessings in exchange of a gmail. I even saw one guy saying that he would allow someone to name his turtle if he got a gmail acount.

Other owners of gmails are actually putting gmail accounts on sale at ebay Auctions. They are being sold at 2 dollars and more . This is pretty freeky since GMail is supposed to be a free service.

GMail is becoming so popular that other services such as hotmail are rebouncing gmail invites .. so if someone is planning to send you a gmail invitation tell him to send you directly the link as your mail service provider might be discarding automatically these mails or sending them in your junk mail folder.

Yesterday I was so thrilled when I opened my mailbox I got 6 gmail invites and i still have 2 left so if you are fast enough i might send you one of them :) to you .

So dont hesistate mail me on baadaal@gmail.com

    chao ,
